Reciprocals in Turkish

This paper discusses various reciprocalization strategies in Turkish, including lexical, pronominal, and verbal reciprocals, as well the collective discontinuous constructions that appear with symmetric predicates. We propose there are two distinct sources of reciprocity Turkish: symmetry distributivity–reciprocity. Lexical reciprocals established via symmetry, whereas pronominal formed distributor–reciprocator operators introduced by reciprocal pronoun birbiri ‘each other’. argue morpheme -(I)ş is ambiguous between a head (vRECP) pluractional (vRL). The vRECP turns an asymmetric transitive predicate into creating event variables subevents single eventuality permutes thematic roles across arguments predicate.
